Before the decade of specialty the head of the department of journalism brings the subtotals.

Already 10 years have passed since, as the Department of Journalism first opened its doors to the students. During this time many things have changed. The history of the specialty, we decided to learn it and asked to the Head of the Department of Journalism PhD in Social Communications Inessa Mikhailovna Artamonov.

- Inessa Mikhailovna, now without the Department of Journalism it is difficult to imagine the faculty. But our department is one of the youngest and it was created relatively recently. Why did you create it?

- On the need to create the Department of Journalism in Donetsk National University first said Boris Kolesnikov, who was then head of the Regional Council. The idea was supported by the university management - and began the active work on creating the department has started. Despite the time-trouble, great preparatory of the methodological and organizational work, the faculty was able to resolve all issues. But the terms were more than concise: the decision was adopted in May, September 1th, and then the sessions for the first students began.

- Who, besides you, was among the creators of the Department? Whose support was crucial in the educational process?

- In the organization of our department is difficult to overestimate the role of deanery. Especially a lot have done personally the dean of the Faculty, Professor Evgeny Stepanovich Otin and the associate professor Lyudmila Borisova, who was then his deputy. I was also invited to lead the new division of Philological Faculty, because I already had experience with a media department on the department of additional and related occupations (I ran it about seven years). I was well known with the specific profession and its members, working with documents, pictures, I also was managed to convince many teachers  to move to our department, who before were the occupation of FSDP. Note, however, that before about in 1996, I myself turned to Evgeny Stepanovich with a proposal to open a branch at the Philological Faculty. But then, for this probably the time has not yet come...

- Given the number of the graduates is difficult to expect that you call the brightest student. But maybe someone still is remembered most? I wonder who are this "stars" in the life?

- Of course, we have a lot of the graduates of the faculty, whom we can be proud of, watching them on television, reading the newspaper publications. I am pleased to name their names. This is Olga Glushchenko, now she is working in Moscow in the TV program "24", Azad Safarov - the correspondent of the nationwide "Channel  5" Oleksiy Kosse - the journalist of "ICTV". On "STB" in "X Factor" is Inessa Ryazanov, and on "1 +1" in the "Tanciujut Vsi" is Olga Kotyuhova. The members of the group of TRK "Ukraine" are our graduates Sergei Carpi, Elena Florensky and etc. In "The First Municipal Channel" you can see Oleksiy Sivolap. On the "27 channel" Makhno Olga, Krukovich Oksana, and Elena Zlatyeva are working. In the agency "UKRINFORM" employs Elena Vasina. Evgeny Shybalov is the correspondent of the newspaper "Mirror of the Week" in the Donetsk region. Olga Dorovsky is on the "Radio Freedom". Many of our graduates are working in online media. For example, Natalie Kazennova now manages online project "URA-inform." But all does not count! I will say one thing: We have graduates which we can be proud of!

- How, in your opinion, the principles of teaching the future "Knights of feather are changing?"

- A lot has changed since the opening of the department. In our lives entered the Bologna system, which abruptly changed the learning process, increasing the degree of responsibility for the result of training as a teacher and student. During this time, was born and spread the Internet journalism, which brought with it the use of new technologies. Our programs have changed, the studying plans, which have become richer, deeper, more varied and closer to European standards of journalism.

- For 10 years, the Department releases in the "great life" dozens of young experts.

Is there a difference between the first flow of students and those who are studying on our specialty now?

- People, in general, are always the same, but now the other students, as well as their attitude to learning. For example, students choose the Faculty of recent years, which has a name, authority, and about which they know. The first students, who came to the "Journalism", did not know what they had to wait for. They were not sure about their choice, they also did not know anything of the specialty. Everything was new. And we, with them, have passed this way, they learned, and we are also studied. They are learned as the students, and we - as the teachers.

- A modern first course has just started joining in the student life. In your opinion, they already understand the responsibility of their new status, or they are more like unbalanced children?

- It is still a little personal experience with the first course gives me reasons to believe that they want to learn, try to do it. Trying to perform tasks, though they not always understand what we are expecting from them, but it will come. Overall, I think, that they will be the professionals, but today it is still very important to educate and properly to direct them, to orient to the profession so that they were not disappointed in it.

- What's missing for the department to make the learning process even meaner?

- First and foremost, we need to improve the logistics and technical department.

This work is doing all the years since the first day, but much remains to be done. In this year, finally we have the audience, which will be equipped with a television and radio equipment. We believe that it the presence of modern equipment will allow more effectively prepare the students for their professional careers, to improve the educational process and training, and also to solve the problem with the practice.

- This year, our specialty has received 100 first-year students. Are they all in the future will be able to work in journalism?

- In journalism everybody can find himself, but only the one who loves her, and, therefore, all these years of preparation, are needed to become a true specialist. The graduates, of which we have already said, are the proof of my conviction. To make our students more motivated, we try to invite the successful graduates, so they can share with the guys with their own recipes of success. This practice is very effective, because the younger "followers" are trying to be equal to them.

- It is known that the department headed by you is one of the fastest growing in the university. What are the plans for the future? What can we expect for? Can we hope, for example, that one day the Department of Journalism will in to the Faculty?

- We are hoping that the Department will increase in the faculty, but it's not so easy.

You need to do the certain conditions. And we are working now. There are requirements for the opening of the faculty. We need an appropriate staff, also there must be a certain number of departments. We're going to open a new specialty, such as: "Advertising and PR", "Publishing" and "Literary Editing". But we need an audience, and the need space. Here, we are expecting for the support of the administration, because there are issues which can only solve the senior management of the university.

Also in the nearest future (and I know that many are waiting for this) - the opening of graduate school. This will give the opportunity to train highly qualified personnel and will help us in opening the new fields. So who knows, maybe next time we will not talk in the Department, but in the Faculty of Journalism!
